Running Shellit:
Shellit consists of three windows (drives, directory tree, and files),
an upper menu bar, a lower f-key bar, and a bottom line message bar.
Shellit can be used with a mouse or the keyboard.

Using Shellit windows with the mouse:
To change windows, move the mouse cursor to the window you want and
press the left mouse button. To select an item in the drive or directory
windows, double click the left mouse button on the item, or put the mouse
cursor on one of the scroll bar arrows and hold the left mouse button down.
When the item you want is highlighted, single click the left mouse button on
it. In the file window, the same applies, except that when a file is selected,
the highlight color changes. To unselect a highlighted single file, single
click on it again. To unselect a group of files, select F3 with the left mouse
button, or select Unselect from the options menu.  Hitting the right mouse
button will de-activate a window.

Using Shellit windows with the keyboard:
To activate a window on the left, hit shift-tab. To move to the right,
hit tab. To select an item in a window, hit or hold down either the
up or down cursor key. When the item that you want is highlighted, hit
the enter key. Hitting the escape key will de-activate a window.

When a drive has been selected, that drive will be read, and the directory
tree will be shown. The files window will show the files in the root
directory of the new drive.

When a directory has been selected, the files in that directory will be
read and displayed in the files window.

When a file has been selected, you can then select a command from the
program menu. Hitting Alt-N or F3 will unselect files.

About Alt-Key shortcut combinations:
All of the menu options in Shellit can be accessed by using an alt-key
shortcut combination. The list of shortcut combinations are as follows:

Using The F-Keys:
The f-key menu displayed on the bottom of the screen is mouse active. Select an
f-key with the mouse, or hit the f-key on the keyboard. The f-keys in use are:
F1 Help - Displays the Help Topic Index
F2 Quit - Pops up the Quit yes/no box
F3 UnSelect - Unselects highlighted files
F4 Select - Selects all files in a directory
F5 Copy - Asks for target destination and then copies selected files
F6 Delete - Deletes selected files
F7 Remove - Deletes a directory
F8 Make - Creates a directory

About the Message Bar:
The message bar will show you the size of the current drive, the
space available on it, and when the file window is active, the total size of
the files selected. When a menu option has been highlighted, the message
bar shows information about the menu option. If an error has occurred, the
error message or number will be displayed, along with instructions if
applicable.

About the Upper Menu Bar:
Please see the General Menu, Program Menu, Options Menu, and System Menu
entries.

The General Menu list can be displayed by three different methods.
1) Hitting the Alt-G key combination.
2) By clicking the left mouse button on the word General on the menu bar.
3) By hitting the alt key, and then hitting the enter key.

General Menu Options:
There are three menu options on the General Menu. Each option can be selected
by using the cursor up and down keys to highlight the option you want to use,
and then hitting the enter key. You can also hit the highlighted letter of
an option. With the mouse, put the mouse cursor on the option you want, and
then hit the left mouse button.

1) Calendar   Alt-A Shortcut combination
Displays six month calender with current date highlighted. Press any key or
mouse button to clear the calendar display.

2) Help       Alt-E Shortcut combination
Displays help topic index window. Use the up and down cursor keys to highlight
the desired help topic, and then hit the enter key. With the mouse, double
click the left button the on the desired topic, or put the mouse cursor on
one of the vertical scroll bar arrows to move the topic highlight to the
desired topic and then single click the left mouse button. When a topic has
been selected, the related help text will display in one page increments.
Press page up or page down to move through the text. Press escape when you
are at the end of the text to clear the text display. A yes/no box will come
up.  Hit y or n on your keyboard, or move the mouse cursor to yes or no in the
dialogue box and hit the left mouse button.

3) Quit       Alt-Q Shortcut combination
Displays yes/no box for leaving program. Hit y or n on your keyboard, or move
the mouse cursor to yes or no in the dialogue box and hit the left mouse
button. Selecting yes will return the computer to the DOS default drive and
directory at the program start, with a clear screen. Selecting no resumes
normal program operation. Hitting escape will clear the dialogue box without
exiting the program, as will selecting no.

3) By hitting the alt key, using the right cursor key to highlight the word
Program and then hitting the enter key.

Program Menu choices:
There are nine menu options on the Program Menu. Each option can be selected by
using the cursor up and down keys to highlight the option you want to use, and
then hitting the enter key. You can also hit the highlighted letter of
an option. With the mouse, put the mouse cursor on the option you want, and
then hit the left mouse button.

1) Unzip      Alt-Z Shortcut combination
Unzips the file(s) from the selected zip file. Program asks for a target drive
and/or directory, then unzips the file(s).

2) View Zip   Alt-V Shortcut combination
Views the contents of the selected zip file.

3) Pkzip      Alt-K shortcut combination
Zips selected files. Asks if first file selected name is to be used as default
zip file name, or uses file name supplied.

4) Extract Archive Alt-X Shortcut combination
Extracts archived file(s) from the selected archive file. program asks for a
target drive and/or directory, then decompresses the file(s).

5) View Archive    Alt-W Shortcut combination
Views the contents of the selected archive file.

6) Create Archive  Alt-R Shortcut combination
Creates an archive file from selected files. Asks if first file selected name
is to be used as default arc file name, or uses file name supplied.

7) Scan Drive      Alt-D Shortcut combination
Scans the selected drive for viruses. Can select a drive and then go
directly to this menu option.

8) Scan Directory  Alt-T Shortcut combination
Scans the selected directory for viruses. Can select a directory and then
go directly to this menu option.

9) Scan File       Alt-F Shortcut combination
Scans the selected file for viruses.

Options Menu choices:
There are four menu options on the Options Menu. Each option can be selected
by using the cursor up and down keys to highlight the option you want to use,
and then hitting the enter key. You can also hit the highlighted letter of
an option. With the mouse, put the mouse cursor on the option you want, and
then hit the left mouse button.

1) Edit Configuration file Alt-U Shortcut combination
Displays configuration index window. Use the up and down cursor keys to
highlight the desired configuration setting, and then hit the enter key.
Hit the escape key to close the help window and exit help.
With the mouse, double click the left button the on the desired configuration
setting, or put the mouse cursor on one of the vertical scroll bar arrows to
move the configuration setting highlight to the desired configuration setting
and then single click the left mouse button. Single click on the right mouse
button, or single click with the left moose button on the upper left corner of
the help window to close the window and exit help. The configuration settings
are as follows:
i) PKUnzip pathname. Auto searches the default drive for the file "PKUNZIP.EXE"
and saves it, if found, to the configuration file.
ii) PKzip pathname. Auto searches the default drive for the file "PKZIP.EXE"
and saves it, if found, to the configuration file.
iii) Arc pathname. Auto searches the default drive for the file "ARC.EXE"
and saves it, if found, to the configuration file.
iv) Scan pathname. Auto searches the default drive for the file "SCAN.EXE"
and saves it, if found, to the configuration file.
v) Shellit pathname. Auto searches the default drive for the file "SHELLIT.EXE"
and saves it, if found, to the configuration file.
vi) PKZip\Unzip version. Asks for new version number (0, 1, or 2). Enter the
new version number, or hit the escape key to keep the old one.
vii) Video lines. Asks for new video lines (25, 43, or 50). Enter the new video
lines, or hit escape to keep the old lines. If a new line count has been
selected, the screen will redraw to the new line count, and then save that
value to the configuration file.
viii) Color Scheme. Runs the color selection subprogram, allowing for the
selection of a new color scheme, or the retention of the current one.
With the keyboard, use the left and right arrow keys to choose the field to
change color of, and with the up and down arrow keys, the color you wish. The
sample window will show what the new color scheme will look like. To change the
color scheme, hit the enter key. To keep the old scheme, hit the escape key.
With the mouse, select what color you want in a particular field, then hit the
left mouse button. The sample window will show the results. To change to the
new colors, hit the enter key. To keep the old ones, hit the right mouse
button. If a new color scheme has been selected, it will be saved to the
configuration file.
viii) Configuration Settings.  Displays the current configuration file values.
Press any key to clear display and return to configuration setting index
window.

2) Mouse speed Alt-M Shortcut combination
Asks for a new mouse speed from 1 to 9. Hit a number key, or the escape key to
quit.

3) Unselect    Alt-N Shortcut combination
Unselects any selected files.

4) Select all  Alt-L Shortcut combination
Selects and highligths all files in a directory.

The System Menu list can be displayed by three different methods.
1) Hitting the Alt-S key combination.
2) By clicking the left mouse button on the word Options on the menu bar.
3) By hitting the alt key, using the right cursor key to highlight the word
Options and then hitting the enter key.

System Menu choices:
There are six menu options on the System Menu. Each option can be selected
by using the cursor up and down keys to highlight the option you want to use,
and then hitting the enter key. You can also hit the highlighted letter of
an option. With the mouse, put the mouse cursor on the option you want, and
then hit the left mouse button.

1) DOS Command      Alt-C Shortcut combination
Displays DOS command line. Accepts and executes DOS commands, then returns to
program.

2) DOS Shell        Alt-H Shortcut combination
Calls COMMAND.COM and returns to program with EXIT.

3) Copy file(s) Alt-Y Shortcut combination
Asks for a target drive and directory, and then asks for approval to copy the
selected file(s) to the target. If approval is not given, then the program
returns to the source directory. If the selected filename(s) are already
present on the target directory, approval to copy over is asked for. If it is
not given, the program continues onto the next file, or returns to the source
directory if there are no more files to copy. If the file will be copied over
itself, the program skips to the next file if there is one.

4) Delete file(s)   Alt-I Shortcut combination
Deletes selected file(s). Asks for approval to delete. If approval is not
given, the files are unselected.

5) Enable directory Alt-B Shortcut combination
Asks for directory to add to, for the new directory name, then creates the new
directory. If the name is a duplicate, will ask for another name.

6) Reject directory Alt-J Shortcut combination
Asks for directory to delete. If the directory is not empty, asks for
permission to delete files. Asks for final approval to delete directory.
